In some cases stress is created due to faulty perceptions that we can learn to change, which are often related to focusing on aspects of a situation that you have little to no control over.  Successful stress management involves focusing your attention and energy on controlling your controllables and developing an individualized toolkit of effective coping strategies to employ during difficult times.
